About David Acunto
History and a little background
He was born in Long Island, NY. David comes from a large, rambunctious family. Raised by two parents; His Father, an honorably discharged veteran of the United States Navy; His Mother, a strong, intelligent and vibrant woman. They instilled the values of hard work, self-reliance, self-sacrifice, teamwork, and education, from a young age. It was this work ethic that drove David to work a full-time job while putting himself through college. David earned his Bachelors of Science Degree in Criminal Justice and Criminology in 2005. Shortly before graduation, David achieved his lifelong dream and accepted a position in with the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department as a Deputy Sheriff.
Since beginning his career with the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department, David has continued his career in public service and now works as an Investigator with the Westminster Police Department. He has also volunteered for the St. Baldrick’s Foundation and currently sits on the Executive Board of the Colorado State Fraternal Order of Police.
As a husband and a father of three small children, David understands the challenges that working parents meet everyday. Having a strong educational system, income, safe neighborhoods, and schools are the same quality of life challenges he faces with the residents of Ward 3.
As a peace officer, he understands the everyday challenges that our families, friends, and neighbors face. He has witnessed the very best and the very worst of people. David realizes that every problem can’t be solved overnight and not every issue has a one size fits all solution. David will use his experience as a peace officer and years of training to handle difficult challenges. David has a proven ability to speak with members of the community from all backgrounds and find common ground to build towards solutions that benefit us all.
David will bring his experience, understanding, and a passion for people of the City of Thornton. He will use his background, training, education, and ability to be an advocate for the residents of Ward 3 and the residents of Thornton. He will work with municipal services and private partners to provide safer streets. He will be a strong advocate to expand our parks, trails and open spaces. David will strive to create an environment for both small and large businesses to thrive. David is a firm believer of labor and the ability of people to come together to bring positive changes. He will collaborate with the local school districts to help improve shared responsibility and to improve the quality of our children's education.
As your city council member, David will work with you, to be your partner, a true community leader. David understands that real change does not come from one person, but the strength and voice from all of us.
